Trying to get golfers to your facility is always a challenge. Today’s golfers are not only looking for a great deal on rates, but also to have fun and added value to their experience.
We have started a “VIP” event at the course where the customer is our “Very Important Person” for that day! (They are always very important, but this day, we go a little further to drive it home!) We are having 4 this season which alternate between a two person Best Ball and Scramble formats. It is a 2pm shotgun during the slower time on the course (Saturday or Sunday) to fill those tee times. Their entry fee includes their green fee, cart, a warm-up bucket of balls, lunch ticket (they can eat before, during, or after their round), and awards. Closest to the Pin and Long Drive contests, one third of the field are winners, and 5 drawings for non-winners are all part of the awards. On the first tee, team photos are taken and immediately sent to one of the player’s e-mail.
Teams switch scorecards to keep the scores honest. Then turned in immediately after their round to be posted for fast results. The first 3 places are cash winnings, the others as well as the drawings, are all gift certificates for the golf course (rounds and carts), pro shop (expire the day of the event), and grille room (expires at end of the month). This keeps the money in house and to bring them back another time!
We use E-Z Links e-blasts system, our web site, and signage at the facility to promote the events. This has proved to be very helpful in getting the word out.
So far, the events have been very well attended. The participants also spend money in the Pro Shop and Grille room. It is another way to get golfers to the course and feel special!
