Professionals and amateurs alike are invited to play for the $25,000 purse in the 2016 Ohio Women’s Open. The Open, which took a hiatus last year, will be contested on August 1 and 2 in Defiance, Oh at Eagle Rock Golf Club.
“We are really happy to be back in action this year. We look to have a large field competing for our $6000 first place prize for professionals. Eagle Rock is a short, but tricky championship golf course. Its rolling hills and undulated greens can provide a big challenge for all golfers,” noted LPGA T&CP member and Midwest Section secretary, Martha Mallott, who is founder and executive director of the tournament.
An added bonus this year to LPGA Midwest Section members is a 36-hole tournament in conjunction with the Open. Those Midwest Section members may play in their 36-hole tournament or may play in both. Registration for all contestants is at www.ohiowomensopen.com. Early bird registration is suggested prior to July 1 as the cost for the tournament will go up $50 as of July 1.
Senior golfers may be rewarded for great play as they will compete in a separate purse and will play from shortened yardages. This is for both the Open and for the Midwest Section tournament.
“All our major sponsors are still on board as they see the merit in having an event which benefits all of Defiance. We get many people involved with volunteering, housing contestants, getting lessons in the community day, and playing in the pro-am on July 31,” stated Mallott. “We still have our Sal Hench Memorial Community Clinic Day on July 30, when professionals from the tournament give free, 20-minute lessons to members of the community. We also have a Welcome Party on Saturday night which is one of the favorite events of the tournament. “
The tournament, which has four days of activities, continues to benefit area junior golf and Defiance’s Area Foundation, which gives needed funds to organizations in the four county region in and surrounding Defiance.
