Louise Ball wins Jeri Reid Spirit Award

Midwest Section President and Class A T&CP Member Louise Ball has been awarded the LPGA Midwest Section Jeri Reid Spirit Award.

After joining the LPGA in 1997, she built her career in golf, starting as a teaching professional and owner of Tennessee Golf Academy at Gettysvue Polo Golf and Country Club in Knoxville, TN, where she is responsible for the day-to-day operations of instruction, programming, bookkeeping, lesson scheduling, and branding. And she served as EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association) Teaching Professional for Greater Knoxville Chapter, LPGA*USGA Girls Golf Academy Lead Instructor, and LPGA Leadership Academy Instructor.

“Jeri Reid was a fantastic member of our organization, and a great friend and confidant to so many.” Ball said upon learning she had been selected for the award. “In one word, she was inspirational!  She never missed a teachable moment.  She battled cancer 7 times in her life, and even towards the end of her life when referring to others going through challenges, she was quoted as saying ‘if they just gave a little more effort or a little more concentration towards what they want to do be doing, instead of what they don’t want to do, they would be better off.’ Jeri had a positive influence on everyone she touched, I’m so glad the MW section has named The Spirit Award in her name; it personifies Jeri perfectly.  I am truly grateful to be chosen in 2017 for this honor.”

Jeri Reid became a member of the LPGA T&CP in 1985. She was an active Tour Player whose playing career was cut short as a result of an injury sustained in a car accident.

She then picked herself up and started putting the pieces back together and began on a successful career path of teaching and inspiring golfers to play the game she loved so dearly.

But she never gave up, and, in Jeri’s words, “You have to pick yourself up and move on.”

Unfortunately, Jeri dealt with these numerous health issues until she lost her long, courageous and inspirational battle with cancer in April of 2016.

The Jeri Reid Spirit of Golf Award was established in 2014 and will be awarded annually to a Midwest Section member who inspires others by their actions just as Jeri Reid has touched countless lives throughout her career.
