Women in Golf Wednesday! – Gennifer Garvin

Women in Golf Wednesday 11-22Name: Gennifer Garvin

Where you live?

Stuart, FL

Where you work & what you do?

I work for The First Tee of The Treasure Coast and am their Director of Operations. Meaning I oversee all areas of operations, programming, coaches, volunteers, budgets, fundraising, and report these back to our parent chapter The First Tee of the Palm Beaches

How long have you been an LPGA member?

I started my track in September of 2011 when I passed my PAT at LPGA International in Daytona.

How was the process of becoming a member for you?

I just recently became a Class A member this summer, so it took me about 6 years to complete the process. All along the way, I learned and grew as a professional with the instruction I received at the national trainings, and even more so from the amount of networking with other professionals made possible by the commitment and care of each LPGA member. I was encouraged by an LPGA member to begin the process in 2011 and can honestly say I was continually encouraged along the way, I am not sure I would have completed if not for the persistence of my peers. 🙂

What does it mean to be an LPGA member to you?

It means I am part of a strong network of professional ladies who are serious about their passion to help others. LPGA T&CP is committed to student focused teaching and excels in teaching teachers. I am proud that being an LPGA member means I am trained to introduce and grow the game because I can help any golfer improve and have more fun.

What is the best part about the membership for you?

I work in the sector of junior golf, so for me the best part is our mission of growing the game for young ladies through LPGA*USGA Girls Golf. This organization is a perfect partner because girls really do excel and love the game more when we provide them opportunities to play and learn together.

What advice would you give someone just starting the program or thinking about starting?

Keep at it and reach out to those around you for help! As I mentioned, everyone is so willing to help and their insights and lessons they’ve learned throughout their career is icing on the cake to your LPGA book work. Also, take your time; each “assignment” is carefully designed to make you a better teacher, and they will if you take your time to assess your current ability and make improvements along the way.
