2017 Section Of the Year Awards

Congratulations to our Section Of The Year Award Winners

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Oct 9, 2017 – The Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Teaching and Club Professional (T&CP) membership has selected the recipients of annual section Teacher, Professional, Coach and Junior Golf Leadership awards. Each of the six sections of the LPGA T&CP—Central, Midwest, Northeast, Southeast, Western, and International—winners are selected by the Section Officers and Section Nominating Committee Chair annually in each of the four categories.

The LPGA T&CP National Awards Selection Committee will select the overall national award winner in each category from among the section award winners. The national winners will be announced in the coming weeks.

The 2017 LPGA T&CP Section Of The Year Award winners are as follows:

Kristie Fowler Wins 2016 LPGA Central Section Marilynn Smith Award

14610895_10210482221069715_2204422789662752559_nKristie Fowler of Tucson, Arizona, is the 2016 recipient of the LPGA T&CP Central Section Marilynn Smith Service Award.  The award is given to the Central Section member who best exemplifies Marilynn Smith’s famous spirit of giving and generosity.  Past honorees include Penny Zavichas, Peggy Gustafson, Marvol Barnard and Tina Tombs.  The award was presented at Marilynn Smith’s annual Charity Pro-Am in Goodyear, Arizona, on October 10.

Fowler currently serves as the Central Section Secretary, a post she has held for nearly two years.  She has served her section in many capacities over the years, including hosting the LPGA Central Section Championship, and as a long-time member advisor to new members coming into the organization.  Kristie plays in Section and National events, and takes teams to Pro-Am events both on a Section and National level.

As a member of the officer team for the Central Section, Kristie has done a tremendous job of outreach to members throughout the Section in her capacity as Secretary, and has brought many member stories to the greater membership through the Section and National Newsletters.

“I can’t think of a better name to add to the list of those who have received the award in Marilynn’s name,” said Section President Marvol Barnard.  “Kristie has truly gone ‘above and beyond’ for many, many years, and the Marilynn Smith Award is a wonderful way to honor this hard-working, caring Section member.”

Junior Golf With Suzie Fisher – by Kristie Fowler

After graduating High School in Coffs Harbour, Australia, Suzie Fisher moved to the United States to pursue a career in golf. She played four years at The University of Tulsa, graduating in 2004 with a degree in Exercise Sports Science.  While playing The Australian LPGA and U.S. Futures Tours she had a lot of success.  In addition, her biggest achievement was winning the 2000 Australian Amateur Championship at Royal Sydney Golf Club. She took these experiences, turned her focus and now is having very successful Junior Golf Programs in Oklahoma.

How I will remember Louise Suggs – Kristie Fowler

Kristie 9When I was 10 or 11 years old, I got my first set of Louise Suggs persimmon woods.  On occasion, my father would help me refinish them, including the whipping.  I loved those woods!  I used Louise Suggs woods for nearly 20 years, including college golf and on the Futures Tour.   I began to collect sets of Louise Suggs clubs and even had a set that was rumored to have belonged to David Janssen who played Dr. Richard Kimble in The Fugitive TV series in the 1960’s.
