DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., September 15, 2016 – Donna White is the recipient of the 2016 Nancy Lopez Golf Achievement Award, which recognizes an LPGA professional who gives back to the game in the spirit of Nancy Lopez.
The Nancy Lopez Golf Achievement Award was created in 2007 and is given to an LPGA professional who emulates qualities valued by Lopez: Leadership, Passion, Giving, and Approachability. Lopez is a 48-time LPGA Tour winner and four-time Rolex Player of the Year. She was inducted into the LPGA Tour and World Golf Halls of Fame in 1987 and captained the victorious 2005 US Solheim Cup Team.
White joined the LPGA Teaching & Club Professionals in 1997, and since then has served as an instructor at many national program, and served on multiple committees within the organization before ultimately becoming inducted into the LPGA T&CP Hall of Fame in 2014. Outside of the T&CP she has many other professional accomplishments within the LPGA such as the National Professional of the Year Award in 2008 and the Ellen Griffin Rolex Award in 2006. She has also been named as one of the Top 50 Best Female Teachers by Golf Digest and Golf for Women Magazine, as well as the Bellsouth/SEC Women’s Entrepreneur Award in 2000, the Samaritan Award for community service in 1988, and the Founder’s Cup award presented by Golf Digest for community efforts in 1987.
White’s professional golf career began in 1977 when she was an LPGA Tour Member and winner of three tour titles. Upon retiring from the Tour, she established her flagship business Golf Professional Services, Inc., an independently contracted concessionaire that provides golf merchandise, award-winning program development, instruction, food, and beverage services. It is around this time that White embodied the idea of giving back to her community through its junior programs, co-founding the Junior Golf Foundation of America (JGFA). Currently, White enjoys her “encore” career as a professor at Keiser University, where she inspires her students to pursue a career in the golf industry. White’s Leadership, Passion, Approachability, and desire to Give back to the golf industry as a whole demonstrates the qualities of Nancy Lopez and this award.
“Nancy Lopez is recognized as an unsung hero,” White said, “setting the stage for what women’s golf is today. [Lopez’s] personal and professional leadership, passion, giving, and approachability traits align with the values of the LPGA. As professionals, we strive to be like Nancy, emulating those said traits and values. I was grateful to be nominated for the 2016 Nancy Lopez Golf Achievement Award and elated to learn I will receive it! To share an award in the namesake of an esteemed friend, competitor, and consummate professional with my business team and Keiser colleagues is truly an honor.”
