BATTLE OF THE TOP TWO
It almost looked to be de ja vu from last year’s Championship after Tuesday’s second round with Lisa Grimes and Karen Paolozzi battling it out. The duo has a 6 and 4 stroke lead over third place finisher Jessica Carafiello. Grimes has come close to winning this event on numerous occasions and should Paolozzi win she would be the first PGA Professional to take the title.

The top-eight finishers in the Championship Division after three rounds will earn spots in the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

DEFENDING CHAMPION MAKES HER MOVE
Defending Champion, Susan Fasoldt (Sarasota, FL.) moved to the top of the leaderboard with the lowest round of the Championship. Fasoldt shot a 5-under par 67 to take a two stroke lead over first-round leader Charlaine Hirst (Pinehurst, NC.). Hirst followed her opening round 68 with a 2-over par 74 today.

“I really felt relaxed today,” said Fasoldt. “Consistency was definitely key to my round.” Her round included 5 birdies and no bogies.

In the Senior Division, Barbara Scherbak (West Palm Beach, FL) vaulted past first round leader Susie Meyers (Tucson, AZ.) with a 4-under 68 and sits atop the division leaderboard with a two shot lead. Scherbek hit every green during her round which included 5 birdies and one bogey. This is Scherbak’s second time competing in the Championship and first time competing in the Senior Division.

Meyers played well today other than one bad hole, a triple bogey on the short 7th hole which contributed to her 2-over par 74. This is Meyers first time playing as an LPGA member. Meyers competed last year as a PGA Member. “As a dual LPGA/PGA member, I am proud to be competing in this club pro championship,” commented Meyers. Meyers credits her improved play to her ability to stay in the present and take each shot one at a time.

HOT START FOR HIRST

The 20 competitors in the Challenge Division were glad to get their rounds in on Monday before storms moved in for a second time at Reunion Resort but windy morning conditions proved tough for the field. First-round leader Charlaine Hirst (Pinehurst, NC.) finished with a 4-under 68 and leads defending Champion, Susan Fasoldt (Sarasota, FL.) and Teresa Ishiguro (Ione, CA.) by four shots.

Hirst, said she had to push through the final stretch to complete her round which included 6 birdies. Consistency was key to her round as Hirst hit every fairway and all but four greens.

Fasoldt on the other hand got off to a slow start as she was three over after her first three holes. From that point however, she birdied 3 out of the 4 par three’s and finished strong with a birdie on her final hole.
