Name:  Sue Powers

Where you live?

Venice, Fl

Where you work & what you do?

I have several, golf-related jobs.  I am the financial Controller and LPGA Teaching Professional at Pelican Pointe G & CC.  I am co-owner of Nancy Lopez Golf Adventures. I wear many different hats, which makes my career interesting and challenging at times.

How long have you been an LPGA member?

Member since 2003

How was the process of becoming a member for you?

Since this was my second career (corporate/ manufacturing for first career), it was a new and exciting process for me.  I had envisioned learning all about the mechanics of the golf swing and to my surprise, the first educational session I attended was all about ME! and how we learn and process information.  I was fortunate to fast track through the NEP program and became a Class A member in three years.

What does it mean to be an LPGA member to you?

I am so proud to be a member of our elite group and thank my lucky stars every day that I was introduced to the game of golf and the LPGA. Because of my LPGA educational, mentoring, and hands-on experience, I am very fortunate to be in a position where I can give back to the game that has given me so many wonderful memories throughout my life. I love what I do and enjoy sharing my passion, energy and positive attitude with others. One of the most satisfying things in my life is helping my students—especially children and females—appreciate the game and the joy that it brings as their skills and accomplishments develop.  There is nothing more rewarding than the energy and enthusiasm of your student as they tell you about a great golf shot, their best round of golf, an “ah-ha” moment, or a new golfing buddy.

What is the best part about the membership for you?

Friendships, networking, and energy after attending events and educational seminars/summits.

What advice would you give someone just starting the program or thinking about starting?

JOIN and GET INVOLVED!  Having come from a male-dominated industry, it was so refreshing for me to find the place I belonged that was female friendly.  We all have many things in common, and you will get so much support from other LPGA members and staff at LPGA headquarters.  Don’t wait for someone to ask you to something; put yourself out there, get involved and great things will happen.

Words of Wisdom
